Workforce

Workplace

Workplace will deliver employment relationship and workplace health and safety customer services and information and policy advice to government on these areas and ACC. Deputy Secretary is Craig Armitage.

Work Directions

Work Directions will deliver improvements in the performance of our workforce and workplaces by actively responding to the constraints and opportunities of our current and future labour markets. It works with other key players who can influence economic development, to help shape the future of work. Deputy Secretary is Monique Dawson

Corporate

Corporate supports the Chief Executive and whole-of-Department capability through a range of central services, advice and standards. Corporate responsibilities include human resources, information technology, communications, financial management, planning and reporting, audit and administration.Deputy Secretary is Brian Sage

Legal

Legal provides legal services and advice to the Department and Ministers, and oversees our official information and privacy requirements. International Services in Legal work with the Department and external agencies to manage the Government's relationship with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and maintain an overview of linkages between international developments and domestic policy issues. Legal also represents the Department in courts and tribunals, and performs a key role in the development of legislative reforms and their passage through Parliament. Our Organisation

Structure

The Department of Labour consists of three inter-connected groups which deal directly with the public to provide service and information, plus policy advice to Government; and support groups which will manage strategy, services and common standards and policies across the Department.

During 2004/2005 the Department's structure was realigned under these Deputy Secretaries. The Deputy Secretaries work with the Chief Executive, Christopher Blake as a Strategic Leadership team, to lead service delivery, contributions towards outcomes and building Departmental capability.

All Deputy Secretaries report direct to the Chief Executive who is the Secretary of Labour. The Secretary of Labour has the legal responsibility to carry out work as directed by the Government through the appropriate Ministers, and detailed in the annual Statement of Intent. Responsibility for this work is delegated through the Deputy Secretaries working as the Strategic Leadership team.
